Overview

This adventurous, water-filled backpacking retreat takes you deep into the stunning slot canyons of Sedona for a challenging, immersive experience like no other! 

 

This trip includes:

  • Miles of hiking through water – ankle to waist-high, possibly chest-high

  • Remote canyon camping deep within the West Fork of Oak Creek

  • Breathtaking red rock canyon walls that get more beautiful with every mile

  • A truly unique and unforgettable way to explore one of Sedona’s most magical places

 

This is a Level 3 backpacking trip, not for beginners. Swimming experience is required in case of deep pools, and participants must be comfortable hiking in wet, rocky, uneven terrain for extended periods.

Itinerary

Saturday (Hike In – ~6 miles, up to an 8-hour trek through water & canyon terrain)

 

  • Early morning start (arrive at trailhead, waterproofing + gear check)

  • First 3 miles on established West Fork Trail (forested, moderate)

  • 3+ miles in the canyon streambed – expect slow, careful travel in a rocky streambed through continuous water

  • Arrive at designated backpacking area deep in the canyon

  • Relax, swim, and enjoy a hidden oasis

  • Camp chat: Slot canyon safety

Sunday (Hike Out – ~6 miles, same route back)
  • Early wake-up, breakfast, and break down camp

  • Slow, careful trek back through the river & canyon

  • Hike out to trailhead & return to Phoenix

What's Included:

Pre-Trip Training & Mentorship:
  • Training plan (ankle strength & stability for rocky streambed terrain)

  • Packing list & gear recommendations (including dry bag & waterproofing gear)

  • Live Q&A session before the trip

  • Ongoing communication with host for preparation

On-The-Trail Support:

  • Trail planning and logistics – permits, navigation, water sources handled

  • Small group experience for safety & support

  • Mentorship on canyon backpacking & waterpacking skills

Campsite & Canyon Experience:

  • Backcountry camping in one of Sedona’s most secluded spots

  • Time to swim, relax, and take in the magic of the canyon

  • Camp conversation & connection with a strong, adventurous crew

 

What’s NOT Included:

🚫 Personal backpacking gear (backpack, sleeping bag, tent, etc.)
🚫 Food (everyone brings their own meals/snacks)
🚫 Transportation (carpooling options available)
🚫 Professional guide services (this is a group adventure, not a guided tour)

Important Notes:

Required Experience & Training:
  • Must have recent prior experience hiking on rocky, uneven terrain

  • Must have good ankle strength & stability

  • Must be comfortable with sustained trekking through water

  • Must be comfortable potentially swimming if needed (unlikely, but possible)
